The Trust currently manages and operates six facilities, one of these in conjunction with the NZ Cricket Museum Trust. Our facilities range from Wellington’s leading art gallery to a range of specialist museums and the child-centred facility Capital E.

City Gallery Wellington located in the Civic Square, creates a focus for contemporary visual arts, architecture and design in Wellington through local, national and international exhibitions including international exchanges and joint ventures with other art museums.

Capital E provides creative technology and live performance for children. Located in Civic Square, Capital E presents professional theatre for young people through the Capital E National Theatre for Children, provides hands-on creative technology learning experiences through its OnTV Studio and SoundHouse™ New Zealand facilities, and stimulating holiday programmes and family events including the biennial Capital E National Arts Festival.

Museum of Wellington City & Sea is located in the historic Bond Store building on Queens Wharf and includes the Plimmer’s Ark Gallery (also on Queens Wharf). The Museum strives to preserve, present and promote Wellington’s social history and maritime heritage.

Wellington Cable Car Museum preserves and promotes Wellington’s early cable car system, recognising its special contribution to the city’s heritage. It is located in the historic Winding House at the top of the cable car route.
The museum carries a Qualmark rating and has won a Tourism Industry New Zealand award two years in a row – in 2006 and 2007 - for visitor activities and attractions: culture and heritage tourism.

Colonial Cottage Museum, Nairn Street, was built in 1858 and is central Wellington’s oldest identified building. It has been preserved and furnished to provide visitors with an experience of mid 19th Century living.
Opening hours:
Summer Hours: 10.00 - 4.00 pm daily (Boxing Day - 27 January '08)
Rest of year: 12.00 - 4.00 pm Saturday - Sunday

New
Zealand Cricket Museum is based in the Old
Grandstand at the Basin Reserve and houses a wealth of national
cricket mementoes and memorabilia. It also has a research and
lending library with an extensive range of cricket books. The
Wellington Museums Trust manages the museum jointly with the NZ
Cricket Museum Trust.
